My Friend, Maxx

I have a new friend and his name is Maxx.

Maxx is visiting us for the summer and he had quite and introduction to the neighborhood. Or should I say, the neighborhood had quite an introduction to Maxx. After spending two long days driving from Texas, Maxx's morning outing turned into quite an adventure. For him, his owner and me.

While we thought the dogs were in the yard, Maxx was actually getting to know my neighbor's yard, trying to "mark" every spot that he thought should belong to him. And when he wasn't in that neighbor's yard watering the lawn, he decided to visit the neighbor on our other side. That's when the feathers flew. Literally.

My neighbors have chickens and Maxx took some time to play with them. Unfortunately, chickens don't like to play with dogs. One got stressed out and died and the other one was never to be seen again.

I can't tell you how bad we felt. It made me sick to my stomach. Floyd, Maxx's owner, was totally distressed. He even checked Maxx out and noted that Maxx didn't eat the chicken as there was no blood or feathers in his mouth.

And then, just as we had recovered from Maxx's deadly romp, I introduced Floyd to the neighbor's little girl. She looked at Floyd and said, "Your dog killed our chickens!" Even though she said it in a nice way and not accusing at all, it kind of felt like a knife going into the heart ... again.

We've all recovered and Maxx in adjusting well to his vacation home. He and Buffy get along famously. Today Buffy, Maxx, Roscoe and Webster had a chance to gather in the yard and play for a few minutes. I think Maxx kinda likes country life.

Construction Time

Today was day one of the construction of our new garage.

We're excited because soon we'll be able to park our cars in the garage and not have to get into vehicles that reach 500 degrees in the summertime.

Ok, maybe 500 degrees is a bit of hyperbole but it sure does feel like it. I bet these guys feel like it's 500 degrees out.

And this guy chose to cool off under the tree for a minute or two.

They had this digger thingy to help out so that there wasn't as much manual labor digging a trench. Or whatever they're digging.

See how much dirt it pulls out?

Here's a hard working man. My Mother-in-law was worried about them out in the heat.

If it were me, I'd be crying about now. The heat has a way of doing that to me. Not to mention that if I had to do this, I'd probably end up whacking myself in the leg. That is if I could even lift the darn thing.

Here's Larry. He's the boss. He assured me that they were used to working in the heat.

However if you look closely at his T-shirt, you can see what he'd rather be doing.

This guy finally came away from the shady tree and worked up some more sweat.

They have a hard, hot job but someone's gotta do it.

Yep, I'd be crying about now.

Picture of the Day

My good friend allowed me to take pictures of her daughter yesterday. This was taken at Hunting Island and is one of my favorites.
